In the match of the 6th round of the English Premier League, Manchester City secured a resounding 5–1 victory at home over Burnley. After the game, the team's head coach Josep Guardiola shared his thoughts about the match during a conversation with the press.
According to the Spanish specialist, his team played at a high level for almost the entire match. He admitted that only for a short period—about 10–15 minutes—the tempo dropped. However, he emphasized that the actions on the pitch, tactical approach, and team cohesion were at a high level for the rest of the time.
We showed a very strong performance. We lost our rhythm only in a few moments, that's all. But everything went perfectly for the rest of the time. Burnley had not lost by a large margin to other opponents, but we managed to score five times against them, said Guardiola.
According to the coach, the start of the second half was also an important turning point for City. The team played with even more confidence, and as a result, their superiority on the pitch was complete.
This victory is very important for us. The Premier League is always tough. After the match against United, our mood improved significantly. Even if at times we cannot play well, the fact that we unite as a team defensively and show strong teamwork is our main source of strength, the Spanish specialist emphasized.
Guardiola also highlighted the performances of individual players. According to him, the opponent's goalkeeper Walker performed at a high level. At the same time, he especially emphasized that it is not easy to stop Jeremy Doku, who is in his best sporting form.
This victory by City gave a big psychological boost to the club’s fans. One of the main tasks ahead for the team is to take to the field with the same strong spirit in the upcoming matches of the season.
