Haiti Fans Unable to Attend World Cup

Due to travel restrictions imposed by the U.S. government, many fans of the Haiti national football team will not be able to attend the FIFA World Cup. It should be noted that Haiti has qualified for the World Cup for the first time since 1974.

In June, U.S. President Donald Trump announced a travel ban for citizens of 12 countries as part of measures to ensure national security. Haiti was included in this list.

According to The Athletic, the decision was influenced by Haitian citizens entering the U.S. on various types of visas and overstaying their permitted duration. Furthermore, the country has been undergoing a political crisis since the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse in 2021.

The Haiti national team was forced to play its home matches in other countries during the qualification stage. For instance, the decisive game against Nicaragua was held on Curaçao, where Haiti secured a victory and earned their spot in the World Cup.

The Curaçao national team will also participate in the World Cup for the first time in history. It should be noted that footballers will not face issues entering the U.S., as the travel ban does not apply to certain categories.

Nevertheless, with a Haitian diaspora of 850,000 people in the U.S., the national team is not expected to be without supporters.
