Former Krasnodar goalkeeper Aleksandr Filtsov shared his thoughts on Matvey Safonov being named Paris Saint-Germain's (PSG) player of the month by the French publication *Le Parisien*. According to Filtsov, the Russian goalkeeper fully deserves this recognition.
Filtsov emphasized that Safonov is not just playing reliably but is demonstrating a high level of performance and making a tangible impact on results. He also noted that Safonov is proving he is ready to compete for the top spot with his performances, showing he will not settle for a backup role.
"It is important to give proper credit to Matvey here: to his character, patience, and composure. The player was given an opportunity—he didn't play for half a year, then came onto the field and started making a difference, both in the league and in other tournaments.
His performances are critical for the team; he is truly making a difference," Filtsov was quoted as saying by *Sovetsky Sport*. This season, Safonov has appeared in four matches for PSG, keeping two clean sheets.
