New FIFA rules for 2026 World Cup

Ahead of the 2026 World Cup, FIFA has officially approved a series of innovative rule changes designed to increase the pace of play and minimize time-wasting tactics. These adjustments aim to ensure a more dynamic experience for fans and players alike.
Under the new guidelines, players being substituted must exit the pitch within 10 seconds. Failure to comply will result in a one-minute penalty, forcing the incoming substitute to wait on the sidelines. Additionally, a strict five-second limit has been introduced for throw-ins; if the ball is not put back into play within this timeframe, possession will be awarded to the opposing team.
Medical protocols have also been updated. Any player receiving treatment on the field must leave the pitch once play resumes and wait at least one minute before being allowed to return. Furthermore, the "VAR" system has been expanded to review second yellow card incidents and corner kick decisions, provided there is clear evidence of a refereeing error. These measures reflect FIFA's commitment to modernizing the sport and maintaining the flow of high-stakes matches.
