Chelsea owners spend £1.5 billion only to see performance decline

Chelsea owners spent £1.5bn only to worsen results, says expert

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has harshly criticized the management of Chelsea FC. The pundit believes the London club has transformed from a trophy-winning machine into an expensive and failed experiment. The dismissal of Liam Rosenior marks the departure of the fifth manager in four years, highlighting systemic issues in the club's leadership, according to Goal.com reports.

Since the change of ownership in 2022, more than £1.5 billion has been spent on the squad and infrastructure. However, despite such massive investments, the team's performance on the field continues to decline. Carragher emphasizes that Chelsea's leadership has destroyed the culture of success, treating managers as mere subordinates.

The club's policy of long-term contracts and searching for financial loopholes is being prioritized over sporting results. This situation is negatively affecting the atmosphere within the team and causing dissatisfaction among fans. According to the expert, Chelsea is currently in greater need of new owners than a new manager.

Young specialists like Rosenior were not prepared to work under such high pressure. Carragher believes that while the owners wanted to move away from the management style of the Roman Abramovich era, they have only succeeded in diminishing the club's prestige and respect. Chelsea is now forced to search for yet another manager ahead of the 2026-27 season.
