Roy Keane doubts Manchester United manager Michael Carrick

Former Manchester United player Roy Keane has once again expressed sharp criticism regarding manager Michael Carrick. He stated that he lacks confidence in Carrick's ability to lead the current 'Red Devils' long-term or elevate the club to a truly competitive level.
In the second half of the season, Manchester United achieved a series of positive results under Michael Carrick. A certain level of order, confidence, and stability began to emerge in the team's play. Consequently, some speculate that Carrick might remain at the club for the new season. While this has not been officially decided, it is increasingly being viewed as a realistic scenario.
However, Roy Keane remains skeptical of such a decision. Speaking on The Overlap, he discussed Carrick's managerial potential, emphasizing that Manchester United needs a specialist who commands respect and fear from opponents.
Keane explained his point with his trademark sharp and vivid style. He suggested that if Pep Guardiola or Mikel Arteta were on vacation on a yacht and heard that Carrick had become the Manchester United manager, it wouldn't intimidate them.
“Does it worry them? I don't think so,” Keane said. In his view, managing a historic and massive club like Manchester United requires more than just good intentions, club knowledge, or short-term positive results. Such a team needs a manager who can handle immense pressure, command respect from rivals, and exert strong influence in the dressing room.
Keane also admitted he hopes he is proven wrong. However, he stated that in the current situation, he cannot imagine Michael Carrick as Manchester United manager for the next two to three years. These comments are bound to spark debate among fans.
Michael Carrick took charge of the team in January, replacing Ruben Amorim. Since then, he has tried to steer the club out of a difficult situation and achieved positive results in some matches. But at a club like Manchester United, a few good games do not mean everything is solved. Here, results are demanded every week, progress every month, and trophies every season.
Now the main question is: can Carrick truly take Manchester United to the next level, or will the club be forced to look for a bigger name? Roy Keane's answer is clear — he does not trust Carrick at the moment.
One thing is certain: managing Manchester United is no ordinary job; it means constant pressure, criticism, and immense responsibility. Carrick has an opportunity, but to prove it, he needs more than just calm words—he needs major results.
