Google has announced an important update regarding its new generation of smartphones — the Pixel 10 series. According to Android Authority, the devices will include a special battery health monitoring function that will gradually limit the maximum charging capacity over time.
The company explained that this system will start adjusting battery capacity after 200 charging cycles, gradually reducing the maximum capacity until around 1000 cycles. Naturally, this will shorten the runtime per charge, but in the long run it will extend the overall battery lifespan.
At the same time, competitors such as Samsung and Oppo claim their devices can handle 1600–2000 charging cycles before capacity drops to 80%. Google’s figure of 1000 cycles is notably lower, sparking debates among users.
For context, Google had already applied a similar measure with the Pixel 9a, where the maximum charge capacity was limited to address safety concerns after reports of overheating and fire risks.
In conclusion, Google’s new decision is aimed at improving battery safety and long-term durability. However, the relatively lower cycle count compared to rivals raises new questions and discussions around the Pixel 10 series.
