Optical boom in China: exports of optical fibers and transceivers surge

In the first quarter of 2026, China's exports of fiber optic cables and optical modules (transceivers) grew significantly. Many manufacturing companies have already secured order portfolios through 2028. Despite the price of specialized optical products increasing tenfold within a year, demand continues to outpace supply. This is reported by Ixbt.com .

Due to production capacity constraints, while order volumes have quadrupled compared to last year, actual delivery volumes have only doubled. Customers are forced to make advance payments to secure production lines.

Exports of optical modules, which convert electrical signals into light pulses, are also growing steadily. In the first three months of this year, exports of these products increased by 30 percent compared to the same period last year. In particular, the 1.6T optical module produced in Wuhan has become the most sought-after product on the international market.

Today, Chinese companies control over 70 percent of the global optical module market and 60 percent of the optical fiber market. Chinese manufacturers are not only maintaining their market share but are also accelerating the global deployment of their technologies.
