MTS unveils hexacopter-based LTE/5G base station for connectivity restoration

At the 'Digital Industry of Industrial Russia' (CIPR) conference, operator MTS showcased an aerial mobile communication complex equipped with an LTE/5G base station developed by Irteya. This device is designed to provide mobile coverage in hard-to-reach and sparsely populated areas, as well as to establish Private LTE/5G technological networks. This is reported by Ixbt.com reports .

The hexacopter is tethered at an altitude of 100-200 meters and is capable of providing stable radio coverage within a 10-15 kilometer radius for three days, regardless of the terrain. According to company representatives, two specialists can deploy this complex in just half an hour in almost any location accessible by an off-road vehicle.

Control and support of the complex are managed by an operator located in a van via satellite communication or fiber-optic cable. During tests, data transmission speeds in 5G mode reached up to 1.2 Gbit/s.

MTS plans to manufacture and deploy dozens of such mobile communication complexes by 2028. This technology is expected to significantly improve communication quality in emergency situations and regions with underdeveloped infrastructure.
