
On the eve of the celebration of Ramadan Eid, Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a decree “On pardoning a group of persons serving their sentences, sincerely repenting of their actions and resolutely embarking on the path of correction.”
In accordance with the decree, 488 persons serving their sentences, sincerely repenting of their actions and resolutely embarking on the path of correction were pardoned in accordance with Article 109, Clause 23 of the Constitution of Uzbekistan.
Of the pardoned persons, 100 were fully released from the main punishment, 268 were conditionally released from serving their sentences, 34 had their sentences commuted to lighter ones. In addition, the terms of imprisonment imposed on 86 persons were reduced.
Of the pardoned persons, 17 were foreign citizens, 37 were women, 37 were men over 60 years old, 167 were young people (including 1 minor), and 5 were persons who participated in the activities of banned organizations.
In accordance with the decree, relevant instructions were given to the responsible ministries and departments to return the pardoned persons to their families and relatives, to assist them in adapting to social life, engaging in useful work, establishing a healthy lifestyle, and finding a worthy place in society.
