The first Ambassador of Uzbekistan to the Republic of Maldives has been appointed

The first Ambassador of Uzbekistan to the Republic of Maldives (residence in Delhi) Sardor Rustambayev presented his credentials to the President of the country, Mohammed Muizzoo.

During the conversation held after the solemn ceremony, the current state of relations between Uzbekistan and the Maldives in the political, trade-economic, investment, cultural-humanitarian and other spheres, as well as prospects for their future development, were discussed.

The parties noted that there are great opportunities for further development of bilateral cooperation in various areas of socio-economic life.

President Mohammed Muizzoo expressed the readiness of the Republic of Maldives to further strengthen cooperation with Uzbekistan within the framework of the UN, OIC, other international and regional organizations on issues of mutual interest, including climate change, sustainable development and regional security.

Particular attention was paid to the development of partnership in the areas of tourism and higher education. In particular, the prospects for training students from the Republic of Maldives in higher educational institutions of Uzbekistan were discussed. It was agreed to consider the possibility of opening direct flights between the two countries, simplifying the visa regime, and developing joint travel packages.

The parties expressed their views on organizing high-level and high-level visits, exchanging delegations of businessmen and representatives of other sectors.

Diplomatic relations between Uzbekistan and the Republic of Maldives were established on December 7, 1994.

It is worth recalling that the new Ambassador of Uzbekistan, Sardor Rustamboev, began his work in New Delhi in January 2024. Before that, he headed the diplomatic missions in France and Portugal.
