The President expressed condolences on the death of Colonel General Rustam Akhmedov

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev expressed deep condolences in connection with the death of the country's first Minister of Defense, Colonel-General Rustam Akhmedov.

Rustam Akhmedov, who passed away at the age of 82, was known as a capable commander who dedicated his entire life to military service and selflessly worked for the defense of the Motherland.

He began his military career as a tank platoon commander, later held various leadership positions - including deputy for political affairs of the tank division, commander of a cadet battalion, and head of higher military educational institutions in Tashkent, Samarkand, and others.

After Uzbekistan gained independence, he held the position of Minister of Defense for the first time in our country and played an important role in the formation of the national army. He also made an invaluable contribution to the restructuring of the General Staff of the Ministry of Defense, the creation of a system of military districts, and the improvement of the armed forces management system.

From 1997 to 1998, he also worked effectively as Minister of Emergency Situations. Even after retirement, he continued to serve the development of the military sphere and actively participated in the reform process as an advisor to the Minister of Defense.

According to the presidential press service, Rustam Akhmedov has always been respected as a person of firm conviction, modesty, and dedication. His name and memory will live forever in the hearts of our people.

His merits were duly recognized by the state, and he was awarded the Order of Glory, II degree, and the Order of Friendship.
