Uzbek mountaineer Alyona Aitova successfully climbed Island Peak (Imja Tse), located at the India–Nepal border in the Himalayas, becoming the first Uzbek woman to reach the height of 6189 meters.
According to experts, Island Peak is one of the most critical preparation stages on the Everest route and is considered among the difficult summits that require high physical endurance and technical skills. The final part of the route consists of steep snow-ice slopes, dangerous glaciers, and inclines of 50–65 degrees.
Aitova’s ascent was carried out using a jumar along specially fixed ropes, while the descent was performed with the “figure-eight” device commonly used by mountaineers. For this reason, Island Peak is not an ordinary trek but a serious mountaineering challenge that demands full technical readiness.
Aitova’s achievement marks a new milestone in the history of women’s sports in Uzbekistan.
