President Shavkat Mirziyoyev is delivering a speech at a ceremonial event dedicated to the launch of energy sector facilities and large-scale projects.
In his address, the head of state emphasized the necessity of fundamentally reforming Uzbekistan's energy system and adapting it to modern requirements due to the nation's rapidly growing economy and population.
“Today, based on the rapid growth of our economy and the needs and demands of the population, we are implementing major reforms in the energy system,” said the president. “In this direction, we have set two key goals as our primary tasks. The first is to establish a reliable and uninterrupted energy supply for all sectors and regions. The second is to achieve this plan through modern, environmentally friendly, and renewable alternative energy sources.”
According to the president, $35 billion in foreign investments have been attracted to the energy sector in recent years. As a result, 9,000 megawatts of new capacity have been commissioned.
Consequently, the volume of electricity generation in the country has increased from 60 billion kilowatt-hours in 2017 to 85 billion kilowatt-hours this year.
The president particularly highlighted the development of renewable energy sources as a priority direction. It was reported that:
- solar and wind power plants with a combined capacity of nearly 5,000 megawatts have been commissioned;
- hydropower plants with a capacity of 400 megawatts have begun operations;
- the share of “green” energy in total generation capacities will reach 30% by the end of this year.
In his speech, the president also elaborated on plans to build new energy capacities, implement large-scale joint projects with foreign partners, and further increase the share of “green” technologies.
