Samarkand Airport recognized as the fastest-growing in the region

Samarkand International Airport is once again on the agenda with good news. In the region of Europe and Central Asia, it was recognized as the "fastest-growing airport." The Airport Technology portal reported this, citing official data from the International Airport Council - Airports Council International (ACI).
Interestingly, these grades are not empty words - the numbers "speak for themselves." It is noted that 1.38 million passengers passed through the modern terminal of Samarkand Airport in 2024. This is 36.6% more than in the previous year. That is, the airport not only operates, but also "takes" new records every year.
It is also noted that the next airport in the ranking, the airport of Albia in Italy, has a growth rate of 18.4 percent. For comparison, the growth rate in Samarkand is more than twice as high. This level is not just a simple statistic, but the result of great work.
Experts cite the new terminal, launched at the beginning of 2022, as one of the key reasons for these changes. Because it is after this terminal that the airport has been showing steady growth year after year. The number of takeoffs and landings also increased significantly - by 23%. This means that not only passengers, but also the dynamics of flights are "upward."
Samarkand Airport is also quite active in matters of routes. The airport has expanded its flight network to 3 domestic and 23 international routes. Recently, new flights have also been launched: to Xi'an (China), Sharm el-Sheikh (Egypt), Turkestan (Kazakhstan), as well as to the Russian cities of Tyumen, Nizhny Novgorod, and Irkutsk.
Another important background: it is said that the airports of Europe and Central Asia have surpassed pre-pandemic indicators in general, reaching a total of 2.5 billion passengers. The fact that Samarkand stands out among these large numbers is a sign of prestige and trust for any country.
In short, Samarkand Airport today is not just a place for flights and landings. It is moving towards becoming a major transport hub in the region. If this trend continues, tomorrow it will become commonplace to talk about new routes, more flights, and even larger passenger flows. Samarkand is gaining momentum not only through history but also through air travel.
