New assessment system for future educators to be introduced

An important innovation is being implemented to fundamentally improve the quality of education in our country and attract truly knowledgeable personnel to the field. According to a new draft regulation developed by the Ministry of Preschool and School Education, the preparation level of students studying in pedagogical fields will now be strictly monitored by the state.

This new procedure is mandatory for all state and non-state higher education institutions, regardless of their form of ownership. The main goal is to impartially assess the knowledge and skills of future teachers based on a unified methodology.

How will the diagnostics be conducted?

According to the new system, assessment processes will be organized every year in the spring months. In it, students studying in the 3rd year of pedagogical programs will participate. Which academic groups will be involved in the test trials will be selected by a special working group.

The test trials will be conducted in the language of instruction and will consist of a total of 50 questions. Through these questions, the following aspects of future educators will be examined:

  • Specialized subject and teaching methods;

  • Pedagogical and psychological preparation;

  • Classroom management skills;

  • Competencies in student assessment.

Results and impact measures

It is possible to score a maximum of 100 points on the exam. If the average performance of students in a certain field is 56 points or higher, the quality of education is considered satisfactory. However, if the result is 55 points or lower, the quality of education in that field is assessed as unsatisfactory.

Notably, these grades will not affect the students' personal ratings or academic marks. However, serious consequences may arise for universities that record low results:

  • Extraordinary inspections may be conducted at such educational institutions;

  • Data will be submitted to the National Agency for Quality Assurance in Education;

  • Based on the results, curricula will be updated and the teaching process will be modernized.

There is no doubt that these reforms will serve to ensure that only true masters of their profession enter our schools in the future.

In your opinion, how much will external diagnostic testing of students' knowledge help improve the quality of education?
