Israel, under the ceasefire agreement with Hamas, has sent 114 freed Palestinians to the city of Ramallah in the West Bank, reports Al Qahera.
According to the Israeli Prison Service, a total of 200 Palestinian prisoners have been released. In addition to those sent to Ramallah, 70 were sent to Egypt, and 16 to the Gaza Strip.
Meanwhile, Hamas handed over four Israeli women held hostage to the Red Cross. Naami Levi, Karina Ariev, 20-year-old Daniel Gilboa, and 19-year-old Liri Albag were freed. All of them are military personnel who were captured during the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, 2023.
The released prisoners were greeted with loud cheers as they exited the buses. “Thank God! This is an amazing feeling, I cannot describe it! I spent six years and two months in prison,” said Bakker Qavaavish, one of the released.
The youngest of the released Palestinian prisoners was 16, while the oldest, Muhammad al-Tousu, was 69. He was arrested in 1985 during a struggle against Israeli forces and had been in prison for 39 years. It is noted that 121 of the released prisoners were serving life sentences.
On January 19, the first exchange of Israeli hostages for Palestinian prisoners took place. Hamas released three Israeli women and handed them over to the Red Cross at Saraya Square in Gaza. As part of the agreement, Israel released 90 Palestinian prisoners overnight on January 20.
In total, of the 97 Israelis held by Hamas, 33 are set to be released within six weeks. For each civilian hostage, Israel releases 30 Palestinians, and for each soldier, 50. Follow “Zamin” news on “Telegram”
