Armed conflicts in Sudan in recent years
Darfur Conflict (2003 to the present)

In the Darfur conflict in Sudan, which began in 2003, the local black population of the Darfur region launched an armed uprising against the government. The government has ignored the Darfur region, giving resources to Arab tribes, and marginalizing local tribes. In response, the Sudan Liberation Movement (SLM) and the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) have launched an armed struggle. In response, Arab fighters called the Janjaweed have been supported and the Darfur population has been massacred. The international community has called these actions genocide.

Also, since April 15, 2023, fighting has continued in the country between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) led by General Abdul Fattah al-Burhan and the Rapid Response Force (RRF) led by Mohammed Hamdan Daglo. After the overthrow of Omar al-Bashir in 2019, the problem of power sharing between the military and civilian politicians has arisen. In 2021, the military carried out a coup d'état. By 2023, the two main factions of the military, the SDF and the TJC, were at odds.

The wars in Sudan have been largely ethnic, religious, and political in nature. These conflicts have been ongoing for many years, and peace has not yet been fully achieved. The current war is the result of internal conflicts and power struggles within the military.
