The German government will not send peacekeepers to Ukraine until a "road map" for resolving the conflict is developed with the participation of Russia. This was announced by Kai Gottshalk, a member of the Bundestag from the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party.
"I think that none of the Germans I know here, in society, especially in my party, would send soldiers to Ukraine. Perhaps after a peace process like in the former Yugoslavia or something similar, this could happen," the deputy said.
Gottshalk clarified that before considering the issue of sending peacekeepers, there must be a “clear roadmap” leading to the restoration of peace and trust with Russia.
Russia’s permanent representative to the UN, Vasily Nebenzia, has previously said that a UN Security Council mandate is needed to deploy a peacekeeping contingent in Ukraine, otherwise such troops would become a legitimate target for Russia.
Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto stressed that a possible peacekeeping mission in Ukraine cannot be exclusively European. He said that peacekeepers from India, Brazil, China and Saudi Arabia should also be included in the mission.
Britain ready to deploy troops to Ukraine
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said that his country is ready to send troops to Ukraine to provide security guarantees.
According to him, Britain allocates about 3 billion pounds annually to support Ukraine. This assistance is intended until 2030. He added that he was ready to contribute to the work on accelerating security guarantees for Ukraine.
"It also means that we are ready and willing to contribute to the security of Ukraine by deploying our troops if necessary. This is not something to be taken lightly. I feel very deeply about the responsibility of putting British servicemen at risk. However, helping to secure Ukraine helps to ensure the security of our continent and our country," Starmer said.
This is the first time Starmer has publicly pledged to send peacekeepers to Ukraine. His statement came ahead of a meeting with European leaders in Paris on February 17. Follow “Zamin” news on “Telegram”
