Underground tunnels belonging to Bashar Assad's brother were found in Syria
Tunnels containing safes and armored rooms have been discovered under the summer residence of Maher al-Assad, the brother of ousted leader Bashar al-Assad, in the Syrian capital Damascus, Anadolu reported.

Maher al-Assad was the commander of the 4th Armored Division, an elite unit of the Syrian army. His summer residence is located on a hill overlooking the capital, near the Damascus-Beirut highway. The three-story building is surrounded by high walls and has a helipad in its spacious courtyard.

The first floor of the residence contains a parking lot and a conference room, while the basement has an armored door leading to a network of tunnels.

Open the door and go down 22 stairs to enter the rest room. After going down another 130 stairs, you can enter the tunnel network. Interestingly, the tunnels, equipped with electrical wiring, ventilation, bedrooms, kitchen and bathroom, are protected by armored doors. Empty safes and luxury watch shelves have been found in some rooms in the main tunnel. There are two armored doors in the tunnels that have not yet been opened, and what is behind them is still unknown.

A network of tunnels, about 3 kilometers long, leads to the general headquarters of the 4th Armored Division of the overthrown regime's army. The entrance to the tunnels for vehicles is also visible from the Syria-Lebanon highway.

According to Faiz Muhammad, one of the guards at the compound, Maher Assad used the compound as an office and a place to relax.
