Former U.S. President Donald Trump has called on Russia to immediately halt its bombing campaign in Ukraine. Speaking with reporters aboard Air Force One, he said:
“We’re talking to Russia. We’d like them to stop. I don’t like the bombing. It keeps going and going every week, and thousands of young people are dying.”
Trump described the war as a “terrible thing that never should have started” and claimed that if he had been president in 2022, he would have 100% prevented it.
Kremlin responds: “Key questions must be addressed first”
Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov responded to Trump’s remarks, saying:
“President Putin supports the idea of a ceasefire, but several questions need to be answered first. These include the lack of control by the Kyiv regime, the actions of extremist nationalist groups, and continued plans to militarize Ukraine.”
Peskov stated that Russia only targets military sites. However, in practice, residential buildings, schools, and hospitals in Ukraine have repeatedly been struck throughout the war.
Deadly strike in Kryvyi Rih — 20 killed
On the evening of April 4, a missile launched from the Iskander-M system hit a residential area in Kryvyi Rih. According to Ukrainian officials, 20 people were killed and over 70 injured. Russia claimed the target was a gathering of Ukrainian military personnel at a restaurant.
Talks are ongoing, but no breakthrough yet
Since February, the U.S. has been actively mediating between Russia and Ukraine to bring the war to an end. Donald Trump has reportedly spoken with both Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelensky multiple times. Several rounds of negotiations have taken place in Saudi Arabia.
The U.S. and Ukraine have agreed on a ceasefire in the Black Sea, but Russia has stated it will only consider such a move under the following conditions:
- Lifting sanctions on agricultural exporters
- Reconnecting Rosselkhozbank to the SWIFT system within Europe
Although Ukraine has agreed to a ceasefire proposal, Russia has yet to formally accept it.
Calls for peace are growing louder — but the path to a real solution remains uncertain. Only time will tell if negotiations can bear fruit. Follow “Zamin” news on “Telegram”
