
Following reports that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio had given a secret ultimatum to Russia, President Donald Trump also made a statement on April 18.
In response to a journalist's question, Trump said: "I want to see a peace agreement soon. There are no specific dates, but - soon."
US mediation - on a conditional basis
Trump openly stated that the US is ready to withdraw from mediation if there is no readiness for compromise:
"If either side makes the process difficult, we will say: 'You are a fool, you are a terrible person' - and we will stop all actions. But I hope that will not happen."
Will aid to Ukraine stop?
Trump did not give a clear answer, but he still believes in a negotiated solution:

Thus, he defended the impartiality of US mediation and his personal image.
