151 people jumped from buildings after a strong earthquake struck Turkey
Today, April 23, at 12:49 local time, a strong earthquake measuring 6.2 on the Richter scale was recorded in the Silivri district of Istanbul province, Turkey. The Consulate General of Uzbekistan in Istanbul reported this on its official website.

As it turned out, the epicenter of the earthquake was in the Sea of Marmara, approximately 40 kilometers southwest of the city center of Istanbul. The impact of the earthquake was felt not only throughout Istanbul, but also in neighboring provinces such as Izmir. After the earthquake, people came out of their homes en masse and gathered in safe areas.

According to local authorities, no major damage or deaths were reported. However, 151 people jumped from high floors of buildings due to panic and fear, and sustained injuries of varying degrees. They are currently receiving medical care in local hospitals, and it is said that there is no serious threat to their health.

Also, during the earthquake, an abandoned building in the Fatih district collapsed, but no one was injured.

Several aftershocks were observed after the main earthquake. The strongest of them had a magnitude of 5.3. Turkish authorities urged the population to exercise caution and advised not to approach damaged buildings.

The Consulate General of Uzbekistan in Istanbul is closely monitoring the situation in Turkey. The consulate said it is in constant contact with local emergency services and has not received any information about any injuries or deaths among Uzbeks so far. The consulate called on Uzbek citizens in Turkey to remain calm and carefully monitor information provided by official sources.

It should be recalled that on February 6, 2023, two strong earthquakes occurred in the Kahramanmaraş region in Turkey, resulting in more than 53 thousand deaths. The Turkish government called this event the "tragedy of the century." The country's leading seismologist, Naci Gerur, warned that there is a 60 percent chance of a more powerful earthquake of magnitude 7 or higher in Istanbul.
