Joe Biden has strongly criticized Donald Trump's policy towards Ukraine in an interview with the BBC. He called Trump's offer to achieve peace by granting territorial concessions to Ukraine "modern appeasement." Biden stressed that such approaches will not stop Vladimir Putin, but rather increase his aggression.
Biden compared the Trump administration's attempts to pressure Ukraine to cede territory to Russia with the "appeasement" policy that Britain used against Adolf Hitler in the 1930s. He believes that such policies embolden dictators instead of stopping them.
"I don't understand why people think that you can give a dictator, a bandit, land that doesn't belong to him and that would satisfy him," the politician said.
Biden also described the Trump administration's meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky as "un-American." He stressed that Trump and his administration had put pressure on Ukraine during this meeting.
Biden also criticized Trump's calls to regain control of the Panama Canal, acquire Greenland, and make Canada the 51st state. He considered such statements to be contrary to American values.
"What is going on? Which president said that? We are for freedom, democracy, opportunity, not expropriation," the politician said, stressing that the actions of the current administration do not reflect American values.
Biden stressed that such policies of the Trump administration undermine US confidence in Europe and weaken its leadership role in the world. He noted the risk of weakening NATO and the US retreating from global leadership.
Biden also defended his decision not to run for re-election in 2024 and announced his support for Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic Party's nominee. He believes that this decision was the right one for the future of the party.
Biden's statements demonstrate his strong criticism of the Trump administration's foreign policy and his desire to defend the democratic values of the United States. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
