Resignation in the Ukrainian army: general admits responsibility for the tragedy

The commander of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Major General Mykhailo Drapatiy, has submitted a resignation letter. The general said that the reason for this decision was the tragedy that occurred at the 239th training ground in the Dnepropetrovsk region, and admitted personal responsibility for this incident.

It should be recalled that earlier the Russian army launched a missile strike on the training center of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. As a result of this strike, 12 Ukrainian servicemen were killed and more than 60 others were seriously and lightly injured. After this incident, serious discussions and a mood of discontent are intensifying in military circles and the public.

Mykhailo Drapatiy said on his personal Facebook page: “I consider myself personally guilty of this tragedy. As a commander, I could not ensure the execution of my orders, I could not fully ensure the safety of my soldiers. I could not be firm enough in this matter, and this is my responsibility.”

Explaining the reason for his resignation, the general made a strong appeal to the military community: “An army whose commander takes personal responsibility will survive. An army in which no one takes responsibility for losses will die. Therefore, I made this decision consciously and officially express my reaction to the situation.”

General Drapatiy called for serious checks and stricter regulations within the army to prevent such tragedies from happening again. He also demanded increased responsibility for commanders, improved shelters, and modernization of security and warning systems.

“Honor is not a word, it is an action. Only by understanding and acting on it will we win this battle. Every commander must learn to be responsible for every order, decision, and soldier,” wrote General Mikhail Drapatiy.

At the same time, Drapatiy, by taking personal responsibility, is setting a new example for military leaders in society. The Ukrainian public has welcomed the decision with respect and is demanding that the military leadership take firm measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
