The political situation in South Korea has become even more tense — regarding the case of the imposition of martial law in December, the special prosecutor requested a new arrest warrant for former president Yoon Seok-yeol, reported yna.co.kr. According to special prosecutor Park Ji-yeon, the new warrant request will be considered in court with important details about the case.
Earlier, on March 7, the court released Yoon Seok-yeol from custody, but the prosecution did not stop the investigation regarding his possible role in organizing a rebellion. Interestingly, there was also an attempt to arrest the former president in May, but it was rejected. The new request sparked sharp debate and controversy in the country's political environment.
It is known that in December 2024, martial law was declared in the country, which led to the announcement of impeachment against Yoon Seok-yeol. The president was accused of organizing a rebellion and was sent to custody in January. However, in March, the Seoul court released him. Since then, the case has been under review in court, and the new warrant request has given the process even more seriousness.
There were also major changes on the political stage: early presidential elections were held in June. As a result of the elections, the candidate from the opposition Democratic Party “Toburo” Lee Jae-myung won and became the new leader of the country.
The new developments show that serious tests of legality, democratic processes, and political stability are ongoing in South Korea. The results of the investigation and court decisions are attracting great interest not only in the country but also throughout the region. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
