In the capital of the United Kingdom, London, the court proceedings related to a highly dangerous and disrespectful arson attack have concluded. This attack not only posed a threat to human life, but also had a serious impact on international peace and security. According to facts established by the court, the attack was linked to the Wagner military group — a close ally of the Russian state — and was carried out through the group’s advanced collaborators in Britain.
It was revealed in court that 23-year-old Jakim Rose, 20-year-old Ugnius Asmena, and another 23-year-old Nii Mensah were found guilty of the grave crime of arson, meaning deliberate fire-setting and endangering human life. They set fire to a warehouse located in the eastern part of London that was sending humanitarian aid to Ukraine, including Starlink internet equipment.
According to information uncovered during the investigation and trial, 20-year-old Dylan Earl and 23-year-old Jake Reeves were behind this attack. They organized the attack on behalf of the Wagner group and directed the other perpetrators. Earl and Reeves admitted their guilt beforehand, and their case was considered separately.
As a result of the attack that took place around midnight on March 20, 2024, the warehouse at Cromwell Industrial Estate was almost completely destroyed by fire. An estimated £1 million in material damage was caused. That night, 60 firefighters were deployed to the scene. They attempted to contain the fire using eight specialized fire engines.
Among the attackers, Mensah live-streamed the act through his phone. The video confirmed that fuel was poured on the warehouse doors using petrol, causing a violent blaze.
One of the truck drivers tried to stop the destructive fire, but unfortunately, he was unable to do so. His courageous effort was widely praised by the public.
It was also revealed during the trial that individuals linked to Wagner had planned additional arson attacks in other parts of London, specifically targeting expensive restaurants and wine shops in the Mayfair area. Moreover, there was a plan to abduct a wealthy Russian dissident residing in the same district.
At present, Dylan Earl has gone down in history as the first person to commit a crime under the National Security Act, adopted in the UK in 2023. This law carries significant legal weight and is aimed at curbing the operations of hostile foreign states.
According to Commander Dominic Murphy, head of the Metropolitan Police’s Counter Terrorism Command, this crime clearly shows that dangerous actions related to Russia-linked organizations are being carried out in Britain through “intermediaries.” These intermediaries are British citizens who conduct illegal activities in the interest of foreign states.
It was confirmed that Earl was in direct contact with the Wagner group through Telegram and executed their orders.
A fifth suspect — Ashton Evans — was found guilty of failing to disclose information about terrorist activity but was acquitted of concealing information about the warehouse arson. The sixth person — Dmitry Pauluskas — was acquitted.
David Cauthern, head of the counter-terrorism division of the Crown Prosecution Service, stated in court: “Such criminal acts are absolutely unacceptable on British soil. The court’s decisions are firm, and no one can escape justice.”
This incident shows that strict measures must be taken against individuals potentially under the influence of hostile states within the UK. At the same time, British security services must enhance their operations. It is already known that the Wagner group is conducting similar actions in other countries. This incident in Britain confirms that the threat is real and widespread.
Therefore, the public and all citizens are urged to remain vigilant and immediately report any suspicious behavior to law enforcement. Peace, security, and independence are equally important for all of us.
