SBU colonel shot dead in Kyiv: theories, comments, investigation
A high-profile criminal incident has shaken Ukraine's security system — in the capital Kyiv, a high-ranking officer of the Security Service of Ukraine, allegedly Colonel Ivan Voronych, was killed by close-range gunfire while leaving his house in the morning. This was confirmed by the Security Service and the National Police of Ukraine.

At present, a pre-trial investigation is underway under Article 348 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — an attempt on the life of a law enforcement officer.

The incident occurred in the Holosiivskyi district of Kyiv. Upon arriving at the scene, the police found the body of a man with gunshot wounds. It is noted that five shots were fired from close range.

Although the victim’s identity has not been officially disclosed, BBC sources and former military officer Roman Chervinsky confirmed that it was SBU Colonel Ivan Ivanovych Voronych. According to Chervinsky, Voronych was one of the founders of a special SBU unit that poses significant problems for Russians.

“For me, this is a personal loss. He was not only a highly qualified professional but also a true patriot. It is reported that the attack was carried out by an enemy saboteur,” Chervinsky wrote on social media.

Currently, investigative and operational teams, criminal investigators, dog handlers, and other specialists are working at the scene. Their goal is to identify the perpetrator and collect all related information.

This incident once again shows that threats to Ukraine’s security and internal risks remain serious. Particularly alarming is the fact that even high-ranking defenders of the state are becoming targets, which may negatively affect internal stability.

The results and official conclusions of the investigation are expected in the coming days.
