The world’s oldest chicken, Pearl, is 14 years old

A chicken named Pearl, living in the state of Texas, has been recognized as the world’s oldest living chicken. She turned 14 years old and was entered into the Guinness World Records, writes Pravillamag.

According to her owner, Pearl hatched from an egg in an incubator on March 13, 2011. “She has exceeded all expectations, as chickens of this breed usually live only 5–8 years,” says owner Sonya Hall.

Currently, Pearl has some difficulty walking on her own, so she spends much of her time in the family’s laundry room. “Sometimes we bring her into the living room because she really enjoys watching TV when it’s on,” Hall says. Pearl also loves the family’s pets, especially an elderly cat and a kitten that sometimes falls asleep on her.

On May 22, the Guinness World Records confirmed Pearl’s age and officially declared her the world’s oldest living chicken. Interestingly, after this news was announced, Pearl immediately laid an egg, even though she usually lays very few.

It turns out that another chicken from Canada is also in the Guinness World Records — it can recognize numbers, letters, and colors.
