An unexpected incident occurred in Japan’s Akita region. At first, it was believed that the death of a 93-year-old man was caused by a bear attack. However, it was later revealed that he had been stabbed to death by his own son.
According to reports, the victim’s 51-year-old son, Fujiyuki Shindo, was arrested in connection with the crime. He had been living with his parents. Police initially warned residents of a bear attack, but withdrew the notice after determining that the injuries were caused by a knife.
During the investigation, several knives were found in the house. Authorities are still working to determine which knife was used and the motive behind the crime.
In recent years, bear attacks in Japan have increased sharply. Over the past year, 219 people were attacked by bears, with six deaths reported. In July, a newspaper deliveryman was also killed in a brown bear attack.
Experts say that in northern Japan, due to an aging population and shrinking farmland, bears’ habitats are moving closer to human settlements. For this reason, the government has eased hunting laws to make it easier to shoot bears. In recent times, thousands of bears have been captured and killed by hunters.
