The recent situation in Kuwait has greatly alarmed the public. According to the Ministry of Interior, at least 23 people have died as a result of consuming illegally produced alcoholic beverages. The ministry announced this on its official X (Twitter) page.
The official statement noted that the production and distribution of alcoholic beverages are strictly prohibited by law in the country. Nevertheless, some individuals secretly engage in the production of such products. The lack of compliance with safety regulations and controls creates a serious risk of poisoning for consumers.
According to reports, during special operations carried out by the police, 67 suspects were arrested. In addition, 6 illegal production sites and 4 more plants that had not yet started operating were uncovered. They were hidden within residential and industrial areas.
The Kuwaiti Ministry of Health reported that the total number of methanol poisoning cases has reached 160. Among the victims, 23 people — mostly Asian migrant workers — have died. Earlier, it was reported that 13 people had died, but later the number of fatalities rose sharply.
The Ministry of Interior stated that the head of the criminal network was a Bangladeshi citizen who has been arrested. Another suspect was identified as a Nepalese citizen.
According to Kuwaiti law, the production, sale, and even storage of alcoholic products such as vodka, wine, and others are prohibited in the country. Exceptions are only permitted in certain cases — such as in diplomatic missions or in closed clubs and embassies belonging to foreigners.
This tragedy has shown not only the dangerous consequences of illegal production but has also once again reminded of the necessity of strictly following rules and laws to protect human life.
