Hanoi flooded: Typhoon causes damage in all directions

The capital of Vietnam, Hanoi, was flooded and continues to experience the consequences of the “Kajiki” typhoon, which caused significant destruction in the country. According to the initial information published on the government’s official website, as a result of heavy rain at least seven people died, more than 12,000 homes were destroyed or severely damaged. Large parts of Hanoi were submerged, and the city’s infrastructure is under serious threat.

The flood caused serious damage not only to urban areas but also to agriculture. According to reports, more than 81.5 thousand hectares of rice plantations and 4.5 thousand hectares of other agricultural crops were destroyed. This may lead to significant economic losses and the risk of food shortages for the local population. In addition, 1.6 million people were left without electricity, severely disrupting daily life.

Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Trinh signed a special directive addressed to the heads of ministries and agencies, leaders of large corporations, and provincial governors. The document included specific instructions for combating the consequences of the typhoon: restoring housing and transport infrastructure, rescuing people in flooded areas, searching for missing persons, and mobilizing forces and resources to reduce damage to agricultural organizations.

According to the forecasts of the Vietnamese meteorological agency, on August 27, heavy rains are also expected in the northern and northeastern regions of the country. In some areas, rainfall may reach up to 70 mm. This forces the population and authorities to be prepared for possible flooding and changes in local conditions.

Experts and government authorities are urging the population to be cautious and to quickly implement measures to protect homes and property in potentially flooded areas.

For Hanoi and its surrounding areas, this typhoon has tested not only the power of nature but also the readiness of the population and the state for emergency situations.
