Chikungunya fever recorded for the first time in Russia

In Russia, the first case of 2025 was identified as chikungunya fever. This was officially reported by Rospotrebnadzor. According to medical sources, the patient is a man who returned to Moscow from Sri Lanka, where he had spent 10 days on vacation.

One day after returning to Russia, he began to feel unwell and immediately consulted a doctor. At first, dengue virus was suspected. However, further analysis confirmed the chikungunya virus. At present, the patient is in an infectious diseases hospital, and his condition is assessed as of moderate severity.

According to Rospotrebnadzor specialists, all necessary anti-epidemic measures have been taken, and there is no risk of the infection spreading among the population. This is because chikungunya is not transmitted from person to person but only through insect bites. In Russia, the number of insects carrying this virus has not reached a dangerous level.

Additionally, it was reported that the special “Perimeter” system is functioning to monitor passengers crossing state borders. This system helps to quickly and effectively identify individuals with signs of infection.

Officials emphasized that there is no reason for concern among the population. All preventive and control measures are in place. The chikungunya case has been recorded in Russia for the first time as a separate event in medical practice.
