Russia–China relations reach unprecedented level
Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese leader Xi Jinping met in Beijing to discuss relations between the two countries. Putin emphasized that ties had “reached an unprecedented level,” while Xi said that China–Russia cooperation had withstood international changes.

The meeting took place on the eve of a major military parade in China. The parade is being held to mark the 80th anniversary of Japan’s surrender after the end of World War II. North Korean leader Kim Jong Un is also expected to attend.

The two leaders criticized Western countries. Xi condemned the “aggression of some nations,” while Putin justified Russia’s actions in Ukraine, blaming the West for the conflict.

Beijing remains in a neutral position toward Moscow. The US and its allies accuse China of assisting Russia, but Beijing denies this.
