Einstein’s first violin put up for auction

In the United Kingdom, Albert Einstein’s first and most beloved violin has been put up for sale. Experts say the musical instrument could be sold for up to $405,000 (about 33 million rubles). The Telegraph reported this.

Einstein acquired the violin in the mid-1890s, before moving from Munich to Switzerland. The famous physicist’s first instrument was hidden during World War II. Interestingly, it bears the engraving “Lina.”

Later, Einstein handed the violin along with other belongings to his colleague Max von Laue. Twenty years later, he gave the instrument to Einstein’s admirer, Margaret Hommrich from Braunschweig. For many decades, the violin remained in the girl’s family until her grandson decided to put the antique instrument up for auction.
