NASA’s first women cosmonauts

NASA’s first women cosmonauts
In 1978, women were admitted to the NASA program for the first time. Among the 35 people selected that year, there were six women. This decision opened the way for women to take part in space flights.

In 1983, Sally Ride became the first American woman to go into space. Shortly after, Kathryn Sullivan made history as the first American woman to perform a spacewalk.

In the following years, women cosmonauts took part in various missions. For example, Shannon Lucid flew several times and became the woman who spent the most time in space.

Today, women are also actively participating in NASA. The first women cosmonauts paved the way for the next generations.
