It was reported that Uzbekistan could re-supply several units of military equipment belonging to Afghanistan - a total of 57 helicopters. According to Afghanistan International, these helicopters were taken out of the country in 2021 during the overthrow of the Afghan government.
According to reports, this equipment, belonging to the former Afghan army, was transported by Afghan military pilots to the territory of Uzbekistan and Tajikistan after the Taliban came to power in August 2021.
As the Pentagon previously reported, a total of 46 aircraft landed in Uzbekistan, and another 18 in Tajikistan. They included Mi-17 and UH-60 helicopters, as well as PC-12, C-208, AC-208, and A-29 aircraft.
The Taliban government has repeatedly demanded the return of this equipment over the past years. However, the authorities of Tashkent and Dushanbe did not give a clear explanation on the issue. At the same time, the US Ambassador to Uzbekistan previously stated that 46 aircraft would remain under Uzbek control under the new agreement.
The US Embassy in Afghanistan expressed gratitude to the Tajik government for not handing over the aircraft to the Taliban government.
It should be recalled that in February 2025, the "Voice of America" publication reported that 7 helicopters were transferred from Uzbekistan to the USA. This incident was sharply criticized by the Taliban government's Ministry of Defense.
