According to Eurasianet, Donald Trump is likely the first US president in history to visit Central Asia.
As the publication recalled, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has been inviting Trump to Tashkent. The Uzbek side has sent an official invitation several times, and in April, a delegation headed by Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov personally presented the invitation to the White House.
As is known, in 2018, Mirziyoyev visited the USA and met with Donald Trump at the White House. At that time, the American leader described Mirziyoyev as a "very respected person."
It is also said that during a telephone conversation on September 5 of this year, Mirziyoyev repeated the invitation to Trump to come to Uzbekistan "at a convenient time."
Nevertheless, the publication's Washington sources noted that as of September 9, a clear decision on traveling to Central Asia has not yet been made.
Eurasianet analysts suggest that Trump's possible visit may include not only Uzbekistan but also Kazakhstan.
Thus, if the visit is successful, it is expected to become a historic event and open a new page in relations between Central Asia and the USA.
