Former Minister of Agriculture sentenced to death for bribery in China

In China, the former Minister of Agriculture, Tan Zhenjiang, was sentenced to a two-year deferred death sentence for bribery. This was reported by the NHK television channel.

According to the court decision, he was deprived of political rights for life, and all his personal property and illegally obtained income were confiscated for the benefit of the state.

According to reports, Tan Zhenjiang held various senior positions at the central and local levels from 2007 to 2024. During these years, he received bribes from organizations and individuals under the pretext of concluding contracts, providing assistance in economic affairs and personnel matters. The total bribe he received amounted to over 268 million yuan (approximately $38 million).

During the trial, the former minister fully admitted his guilt and expressed remorse for his actions. Taking this into account, the court postponed the execution of the sentence for two years. This means that if the convicted person commits another crime within this period, the death penalty will be executed, if not - the punishment will be replaced with life imprisonment.
