Robert Fico criticized the EU: "The war in Ukraine is not our war"

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico once again sharply criticized the European Union's approach to Ukraine. He emphasized that "war is not a solution" and that if Brussels had invested the same energy and attention in peace initiatives as it did in the war, the conflict would have ended much earlier.
Fitso expressed these thoughts on a television program dedicated to the 81st anniversary of the Red Army's Carpathian-Dukla operation. This operation was noted as a historic event that led to the liberation of the territory of present-day Slovakia from Wehrmacht troops.
The Prime Minister emphasized that the main goal of his government's foreign policy is not "to win over Russia," but to end the war in Ukraine as soon as possible "so that the Slavs stop killing each other." "It could have been stopped less than three months after the conflict began. But someone started trying to turn this into a situation that would be beneficial in the fight against Russia," Fitso said.
The Slovak leader noted that he would not allow his country to be "involved in any military adventure." He believes that the conflict in Ukraine is "not our war," therefore Bratislava should support a position of negotiation and compromise, not escalation of the conflict.
Fitso also pointed out that at EU summits, talk about "how to defeat Russia" prevails. "Do these people really understand what war means? Perhaps someone should come and remind us of the repressions and suffering of the Second World War, and turn our attention to peace," the Prime Minister added.
Thus, the Slovak leader's position remains unchanged: to expand diplomatic channels instead of increasing pressure on the front, to prioritize peace, and to refrain from decisions that further exacerbate the conflict.
