Chinese medicine has taken a new and historic step on a global scale. Doctors at Xijing Hospital in Shaanxi Province have successfully transplanted genetically modified pig liver into the human body for the first time in medical history. This was reported by China Daily and Global Times.
According to the data, the operation was performed on a patient considered clinically dead. The medical team removed the patient's own liver and replaced it with a genetically modified pig liver.
Scientists note that this organ was fully supplied with human blood, began to produce bile, and successfully performed its physiological functions. The most important aspect is that the patient's immune system did not show a rejection reaction (hyperacute reaction) to the pig's organ. This is a rare occurrence in medical history.
During the operation, all vital indicators - blood circulation, liver function, and metabolism - were stable. For 10 days after the procedure, the patient was under special medical supervision, and all results were documented by the medical commission.
According to experts, this practice is considered a major achievement in the field of xenotransplantation (i.e., transplanting animal organs into the human body). It can reduce the enormous need for human organs in the future and create a new opportunity to save the lives of thousands of patients suffering from liver failure.
This experience of Chinese scientists demonstrated not only the national scientific potential, but also a new stage in the field of medicine. According to experts, this result may open the possibility of transplanting other internal organs - such as kidneys, heart, or lungs - from animals to humans in the future.
Thus, this operation, performed at Xijing Hospital, opened a new page in the history of medicine and gave great hope for scientific research on saving human life.
