At the White House in Washington, U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky held an important meeting focused on the war in Ukraine, arms supplies, and new directions for bilateral cooperation.
During his remarks, Trump said he hoped Ukraine would not need to use Tomahawk cruise missiles. “We are trying to simplify the process. We are talking about very powerful weapons. I hope there will be no need to use them. It’s possible to end the war without Tomahawks,” said the U.S. President.
Zelensky, in response, called the current conflict a “technological war” and emphasized the need for more drones. According to him, Ukraine now requires not only weapons but also new technologies. “We have many kinds of weapons, but drones provide a major advantage. Therefore, I propose joint drone production with the U.S.,” said Zelensky.
Trump welcomed the idea, noting that the U.S. is also highly interested in drone technologies. “We prefer to supply Ukraine with drones rather than Tomahawks. They are a faster and more precise tool to end the war,” he said.
According to Trump, Russian President Vladimir Putin also wants the war to end, adding, “Now we must make it happen.” He also stated that his upcoming meeting with Putin in Budapest will likely take place without Zelensky’s participation.
Earlier, Trump mentioned that if talks with Russia failed, Ukraine could receive missile deliveries.
Moscow, meanwhile, has strongly opposed supplying Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine. According to Putin, these weapons will not change the battlefield situation but could seriously harm relations between Russia and the U.S.
After the meeting, the delegations of both countries continued discussions on expanding bilateral cooperation and economic ties.
