In Northern Kazakhstan, the number of people choosing a healthy lifestyle is steadily increasing. According to Tengrinews, 21 villages across the country have completely abandoned alcohol consumption. This movement began several years ago and has gained strong momentum today.
The latest example is Baysal village in the Kyzyljar district. The initiative came from the elders, and the youth supported it — together the entire community decided to boycott alcoholic beverages.
“In our village, doors are open, no one touches anything. There’s no alcohol, the atmosphere is healthy. We are proud of this,” said one of Baysal’s residents.
There are about 60 farming households in the village, mainly engaged in livestock and poultry breeding. Giving up alcohol is seen not only as a step toward better health but also as an effort to create a pure environment for the next generation.
Police data show that crime rates in Baysal and similar “sober villages” have decreased by 14%, proving the initiative’s success.
Currently, the number of such villages is growing across Kazakhstan — previously there were 13, now the figure has reached 21. Moreover, in Western Kazakhstan, 33 villages have officially banned alcohol.
Experts believe this movement not only promotes healthy living but also represents an important step toward transforming public consciousness. These villages are setting an example for the entire nation.
