Gaza hospitals in critical condition after the war

Despite the fighting having stopped in Gaza, thousands of patients, especially children, remain in critical condition. According to the World Health Organization, more than 15,000 people need to be urgently taken abroad for treatment. However, permission has not yet been granted for this.

10-year-old Amar Abu Said is being treated at Nasser Hospital. He was paralyzed from the neck down after being shot while sitting in his family's tent. According to his mother, he needs a complex operation, but there are no conditions for this in Gaza.

Due to the war, hospitals in Gaza are in dire condition. There are shortages of medicines, equipment, and electricity. Even if doctors can diagnose illnesses, they are unable to treat patients.

Recently, 41 patients were taken from Gaza to Jordan. Specialists say this is far too few and that more patients need to be transferred. In their opinion, if permission is granted, Gaza patients could be treated in hospitals in Jerusalem and the West Bank.

Israel, however, has not opened the Rafah border crossing. The government cites Hamas's failure to fulfill its obligations as the reason. Meanwhile, during the past year, 740 people, including 140 children, died while waiting for permission to leave for treatment.
