The UK government will begin accommodating undocumented immigrants in military barracks from the end of November.
According to The Times, the initial phase will utilize an army base near Inverness, Scotland, and a military training camp in East Sussex, southern England. It is planned to temporarily accommodate up to 900 undocumented migrants in these places.
According to sources in the Ministry of Internal Affairs, in the future this figure may reach 10 thousand people. The government's main goal is to reduce the burden on the budget and eliminate the need for illegal migrants to stay in expensive hotels.
According to the data, as of March 2025, more than 32,000 undocumented migrants are staying in 210 hotels across the country. This brings enormous funds to the state treasury.
According to a report released by the British Parliament's Internal Affairs Committee on October 27, the cost of accommodating illegal migrants in hotels for 10 years, from 2019 to 2029, will amount to £15.3 billion ($20.4 billion).
