Solar activity sharply decreased

On October 30, the Solar Astronomy Laboratory recorded a very rare case. The Sun, which had been active with powerful explosions, this time fell into absolute calm. For the first time this year, the activity index has reached zero, experts reported.

According to scientists, no explosions or radiation were observed in the Earth-facing part of the Sun within 48 hours. Events that occurred on the opposite side were not taken into account, as it is impossible to accurately measure them. According to astronomers, this is an unusual state of rest in solar activity.

Experts note that this year, solar activity was not stable, but rather sharply fluctuating. After several days of explosions, sometimes long-term "calm phases" begin. This is one of the natural but extremely uncertain processes of the solar cycle.

It is noted that the last time the explosion activity index dropped to zero was in April 2024. However, not long after, in May, one of the strongest solar explosions in the last 20 years was recorded, causing fifth-degree magnetic storms on Earth.

Astronomers assess the current state as temporary. According to them, new active regions on the opposite side of the Sun may face Earth in the coming days, and activity is expected to increase again.

In short, although the Sun, the heart of nature, appears to have stopped for several days, scientists do not rule out the possibility of this being a "storm before calmness."
