Uzbekistan and Afghanistan have launched a joint program to restore the textile industry in Afghanistan. Within the framework of the project, there are considerations to transfer the production capacities of some textile enterprises that previously ceased operations in Uzbekistan to Afghanistan.
The legal basis for the cooperation is a memorandum signed between the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan and the Afghan state enterprise “Afghan Textile Corporation.” In October, a delegation of Uzbek specialists conducted a technical audit of factories in the Parwan, Kandahar, Balkh, and Baghlan provinces, as well as a sewing workshop facility in Kabul.
During the visit, the current state of the buildings, equipment, and infrastructure was assessed. The collected technical and economic data will serve as the basis for developing proposals to restore and launch the factories.
This initiative is expected to help create new jobs and strengthen bilateral economic ties. The initiative is part of a broader process of deepening cooperation between Uzbekistan and Afghanistan, which is also evidenced by the recently established joint logistics enterprise in Kabul by companies from both countries.
