Trump wants to demand five billion dollars in compensation from the BBC

US President Donald Trump announced plans to sue the BBC to recover up to five billion dollars in damages. He mentioned this in his speech.
According to Trump, the BBC broadcast his speech in edited form, thereby misleading the public. "I think I should take them to court this time. "Because they admitted it themselves - they changed the words I said," the US president said.
The conflict began in October 2024, just a week before the US presidential election. The BBC's Panorama program aired a special episode about the invasion of the Capitol on January 6, 2021. It combined and edited excerpts from Trump's two different speeches, creating an impression that he was calling for chaos and violence.
Following this edit, the BBC leadership faced serious criticism. BBC CEO Tim Davy and head of the news department Deborah Terness have resigned.
The company apologized for editing Trump's speech but refused to pay financial compensation. Despite this, Trump stated that he will not abandon his intention to hold the BBC accountable and may file a lawsuit next week.
