In Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, female drivers began operating passenger buses on November 24. According to Oxu.az, this is an important step towards expanding women's participation in the country's public transport sector.
At the initial stage, female drivers will work under the supervision of experienced coaches. The Azerbaijan Ground Transport Agency (AYNA) developed a special training program and conducted theoretical knowledge and practical training for the candidates.
In addition to driving skills, the training process also included communication culture, service ethics, safety rules, and proper movement in various road conditions. Women underwent practical training in maneuvering, stopping, parking, and controlling buses on complex roads.
After preparation, the candidates took tests for independent driving on special routes. During the hiring process, they underwent a medical examination, psychological assessment, and checks for compliance with safety requirements. Women who successfully completed all stages were accepted into the BakuBus as drivers.
The activities of female drivers in public transport represent a new stage for Baku, contributing to the promotion of gender equality in the sector.
