The police of Avon and Somerset are investigating a large-scale theft of cultural valuables that occurred in the warehouse of the Bristol Museum. The criminals stole more than 600 artifacts related to the history of the British Empire and the Commonwealth, CNN reports.
The crime was committed early in the morning on September 25, but law enforcement officers published photos of the four wanted individuals and asked the public for help. According to investigators, the stolen items have "significant cultural value," and most of them were donated to the museum.
Detective Constable Dan Burgan called the incident a serious blow to the city: "The theft of so many items of great cultural significance is a great loss for Bristol. These artifacts are part of a collection that will help us understand the complex, multi-layered history of Britain, and we hope that the public will help us identify the culprits."
According to the BBC, among the missing items are military insignia and pins from the time of the East India Company, jewelry, carved figurines, and other decorative items.
